ELYRIA, Ohio - A thin layer of snow covers the pavement outside my office window this morning.  The sun is out and it's starting to melt.  I'm a few minutes from posting the first web pages of this site, and I needed to put something on "paper" to fill the About Us section.

As I sit here about to launch this venture, I figure the most frequently asked question, at least at start up, may be "why?".  So, let me try to explain that in a few sentences.

It's hard to explain a single reason we've decided to launch D2BASKETBALL.COM.  The most simple way to say it is that we haven't found any place else on the web that does what we want to do here.

It all started last spring, on another day when there was a thin layer of snow outside and I was sitting in my office.  The NCAA, Division II Elite Eight was underway in St. Joseph, Mo., and I was trying to get some information about the games.  I went from site to site and search engine to search engine looking for more than just the scores.  I never found anything.

The failure to find the kind of one-stop source for information frustrated me.  Over the next few days, it gnawed at me.  Within a few days, I'd registered this URL name and started toying with the idea of launching this site.

Over the summer, we added a logo and eventually started working on adding content.  This isn't my full-time venture, so I've had to wedge work on it in between jobs that pay for me and my life.  Finally, this morning, I've reached the point where I think the basic framework is good enough to put up on the site.

The other part of a question about "why?" could involve questioning why I want information about D2BASKETBALL.  I'll answer that as simply as I can.

I grew up a Hoosier.  I learned to enjoy the game of basketball in Evansville, Ind. back when the Purple Aces were kings of the College Division Championship.  While I enjoy the game on all levels, I still think there's something special about it when its played in smaller buildings in smaller towns and with fewer of the "big time" trappings.

I guess that in some way, when I go to a D2 game, I'm transported back to a time when basketball was sitting in my bedroom listening to Marv Bates on WGBF Radio calling the play-by-play of the Purple Aces while I shot Nerf Hoops.

The snow's still melting and I want to get these pages posted before I chicken out.

Hope you like the site.

Sincerely,
